About Mark

Piano Expert & Enthusiast in Northern Ireland

The Piano Doctor is a business run by Mark McKeown, offering professional piano tuning, piano repairs, action regulation and complete restoration services covering the whole of Northern Ireland.

Mark McKeown  BMus. DipPT. CPT.

Mark first began taking a keen interest in keyboard instruments at the age of 4 years old. Since then he has led a music-driven life, studying music all the way up to a Bachelor of Music degree. In the past Mark has sung and played with orchestras and he is trained in piano, keyboard, celeste, clarinet and saxophone, as well as orchestral conducting.

In 2005 he moved to Canada to pursue training as a piano technician at The University of Western Ontario. Here he undertook the university’s Piano Technology Programme under the guidance of Don Stephenson – one of Canada’s leading piano technicians.

In addition to his training, he helped maintain the music department’s practice pianos (approximately 150 instruments in total). During his time at  university, he attended the Steinway factory, Steinway Hall and the Yamaha performers’ studio that are all based in New York; here he was given seminars by some of the leading piano technicians in North America. Since then Mark has revisited UWO as a guest lecturer.

Curt Lennon  CPT

Originally from Maryland, USA, Curt studied music theory and sound design in California. He moved to Canada in the summer of 2013 to study at the widely acclaimed Piano Technology programme at The University of Western Ontario, under the tutelage of one of Canada’s leading Piano Technicians, Don Stephenson.

After graduating from UWO in 2014, Curt moved to Melbourne, Australia, to work with a piano company. He moved back to the U.S. in 2015 and since then has gained considerable experience in the tuning, regulating, repair and rebuilding of upright and grand pianos. In 2018 a wee small little company in Northern Ireland called The Piano Doctor Ltd pinched Curt’s services from right under the noses of Baltimore County Schools District and a university in San Francisco, both of whom wanted his services to attend to their busy piano maintenance schedule! 🙂
